Which SSIP scheme should we join?
The one your client will accept, and often several will. SSIP operates mutual recognition between member schemes, so a single assessment usually satisfies buyers using another member. CHAS, SafeContractor, Acclaim and Constructionline all sit inside it. We check the client's specification before you spend anything.
Is SSIP the same as ISO 45001?
No. SSIP assesses your health and safety arrangements against core criteria, typically each year, for supply-chain prequalification. ISO 45001 is a certified management system with internal audit, worker consultation and continual improvement. SSIP is the entry ticket; 45001 is the system.
We failed an assessment. What now?
Most failures are documentary: generic risk assessments, a policy older than twelve months, no evidence of competent advice, or subcontractor checks that happen in practice but not on paper. Re-submission is usually quick once the pack is right.
How long does it take?
Two to four weeks for most applications, and most of that is assembling evidence rather than waiting on the assessor.
